On October 14, 2025, the Sacramento Anthony M. Kennedy American Inn of Court presented member June Coleman with the Inn’s 2024-2025 Joe Ramsey Voice of Conscience award. As noted during the presentation of the award, the Joe Ramsey Voice of Conscience recognizes a member of the Inn who, “during audience discussion of issues raised in program presentations, speaks up to say that, whatever the situation, lawyers and judges must act ethically, civilly, and do the right thing regardless of the consequences. By words and actions, the recipient consistently demonstrates all that is good about the practice of law.”
The award is named in honor of Joe Ramsey, a beloved founding member of the Kennedy Inn of Court who epitomized the finest qualities of the legal profession and the highest standards of ethics, civility, professionalism, and excellence in the practice of law. Joe Ramsey was widely regarded in the Sacramento legal community as a model of civility, integrity, and professionalism. Colleagues remembered him not only for his sharp legal mind but also for his fairness, humility, and deep respect for others—whether clients, opposing counsel, or judges. He was known for bringing a sense of humanity and decency to every interaction, consistently demonstrating that strong advocacy and genuine courtesy can coexist. His example set a high standard for ethical conduct and collegiality, inspiring many lawyers in the region to emulate his balanced approach to the practice of law.
June’s selection for this distinction reflects her own steadfast commitment to those same values. Through her work with the creditors rights community, June has helped promote education, mentorship, and best practices that encourage attorneys to uphold integrity and civility in all aspects of their practice. Her contributions exemplify the spirit of the Joe Ramsey Voice of Conscience Award and the ideals of the legal profession.
